Dan Shannon

A young hipster part of the
counter culture movement with a camera

About Dan

Dan Shannon fit right into the “DIY” of the sixties and early seventies counterculture. He was one of the first people to build a wooden “house car.” He hung around groovy “like-minded people” and always carried his camera with him to chronicle the times. His cousin Jay Ferguson started a band named “Spirit.”

As a tour manager in the 1970s, Dan lived in the rock and roll world and created some beautiful photos for a new band call Jojo Gunne, who opened for Rod Stewart and Faces numerous times. One of Dan’s photos graces the cover of a Faces 5 CD box set.

By the 80’s, Dan’s photography focus was on race cars; specifically, Formula One + Indy Cars. He took the last photos of Rolf Stommelen, just before he died in a terrible crash at Riverside Raceway. He was also friends with Marco Andretti and Phill Hill. Dan raced cars as well, being successful in his amateur racing endeavors.

Currently Dan is retired and living on the open road in his Airstream trailer looking for his next adventure.
